The War
I haven't posted in a while, been insanely busy with work and having to see a certain Turk and friends and well, it goes on. But I guess I should say something about the war. I think we're in what, day seven, now?
I don't understand how some people couldn't wait for the war to start, they were almost eager for it. I knew the war was coming, heck anyone who watched or read anything that came out of the administration knew the war was coming. I don't know if it was the new, so-called hawks, (Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz), who have put us in the war, but with the rhetoric that the admistration was using, the only outcome short of Iraq completely and totally becoming transparent and showing us every single ordinance that they had, we were going to war. A president cannot make empty threats, then their threats hold no water. This isn't proof for the Just War Theory or that diplomacy doesn't work. Diplomacy only works when all the actors come to the table and have reasonable expectations. The Bush admistration wanted too much, too fast.
I think that's also a reason that people think that this war will be over quickly and with little US casualties. The administration has had a rhetoric that hasn't prepared the people for war, comm'on, people were even waiting for it, wishing it would start. I don't know what goes through someone's head when they wish that a war will start. I had to write a letter for work, encouraging people to come to DC, that everything is ok. At the end of the letter I put that we are continuing to pray for peace and those affected by the war. It's not enough to pray just for the troops, but also remember to pray for the families of the troops, the civilians that are in Iraq, the families of the Iraqi soldiers. I saw the other day on the news a report of a family of 18 who were fleeing a combat field. The family was caught in the cross fire between coalition and Iraqi forces. Fifteen family members died. Only a father and his two children survived, one was three and saw her mother gunned down. The toddler was frantic with fear and incomprehension. It's not enough that we pray for our troops, we should pray for all those who now know the horror of war.
