I'm famous!  Ok, so I'm really not, but you can see my picture up at the Fear the Turtle Sculptures webpage.  Last year, Maryland kicked off their 150th Anniversary celebration. A part of that was to jump on the Cow Parade bandwagon, or in this case, a turtle parade.  Fifty turtles where cast out of fiberglass, painted and accessorised and now adorn locations all over the great state of Maryland.  If you would like to visit all 50, be sure to get your picture taken with them and join in the Fear the Turtle Sculpture Scavenger Hunt that is between the 1st of August and all entries must be recieved by the 1st of October.

You're a Giant Clam!

There are a lot of sedentary folks in this world, but you might be
the most stationary of them all. Most days, you feel you can't even get out of bed
in the morning. Movement at any level seems difficult, and lethargy is the order
of your day. For someone so relaxed, you have a rather big mouth and don't mind
moving that in most cases. When provoked, however, you shut your mouth and refuse
to open it under any circumstances.

This would be funny if it wasn't so St. Louis-centric:

You're Missouri!

An admirer of the works of Mark Twain and the steamboat lifestyle, you
are happiest when floating gently down the river. You have a strong sense of
independence, a reverence for saints, and even look up to discredited explorers. With all
these traditional influences, it's no surprise you're at the center of everyone you know,
and are even considered a gateway to the future. If only you could stop drinking the
world's worst beer, you'd be set.

Tweed

blazerWell, I promised a real Friday Find this time around.  If you didn't know, Nordstrom is the the middle of their Anniversary Sale. Woo-hoo! If you haven't been to a Nordstrom half-yearly or anniversary sale before, they don't deeply discount old merchandise, they pre-view discount merchandise for the next season. So you can buy clothes now and be all fashionable when fall rolls around. In keeping with the plaid boucle trend that was popular this summer, tweed and darker pattered boucle will in this fall.  I love this tweed blazer, though there is a matching skirt. Very cute and inexpensive suit! Be sure to check out the sale before it ends on August 1st.

It's good to know that Washingtonians go out and about on the week-ends.Read about what they are doing.

shuI was going to post about this earlier, but I didn't have time in asia to do so. My mother is a little obessed with make-up, no she doesn't wear a lot, but she can talk to a sales associate for two to three hours about make up. Right now her current thing is Shu Uemura a line out of Japan that uses a lot of deep sea water. Well their new product is White Recovery. Something that is supposed to inhibit melanin production and therefore lighten the skin. I guess this really isn't a friday find, considering this product is only available in Asia, but it does show that Asia is still a lot like how Europe and the US used to be....being tan wasn't seen as a good thing. Now I have a bottle of WR Whitening Lotion in my medicine cabinet. But their cleansing oils are great. It won't dry out your face and great alternative to soap. Shu Uemura is available at Sephora online and twelve stores in the US. Scary, one of the twelve stores is in Kansas City.

sail.jpegSo, spring is here! It came rather suddenly, I might add. With spring comes the joy of wearing lighter, brighter and more fun clothes! I know that nautical is in, and after my black sailor pants from the winter, I have kept the nautical trend with a very cute red skirt with sail boats from Anthropologie, unfortunately it's no longer available online, but the stores should have them still. If you want, they do have this very cute dress available online.

Is there a friendster bubble? Or is Friendster here to stay? I don't know, the amazing thing, I've never solicited anyone to join friendster and I have a decent number of friendsters. I don't know if that means that I have friends who like to join online communities or what?

Joy for the day: Walking to work (boo) and seeing the magnolias, cherry trees, daffodils, narcissus, and some crocus all in bloom.

Old

There are times in my life that I really start to feel old. Last night was one of them. It started with happy hour, I had to pick a place that someone under 21 could get in, yea. Then I went to a friend's place, we'll call him Dick because he calls me Boo Boo Kitty, Dick had some people over for fondue. Two of those people are younger than us and Dick decides that he wants to watch the The Goonies, good movie. The two younger kids have never seen The Goonies or even heard of it. Dick can remember seeing it in the movie theatre and I remember seeing it at a friend's house when it came out on video, my 'rents aren't big movie goers. So, one of the younger ones turns to me and asks when it was release, I say maybe 1982 (it actually came out in 1985), he kid replies that he was 0 years old in 1982. Yea, way to make me feel OLD!

Fabulous Friday

irishI'm going to start a new posting series for the blog, I think I'll call it the Fabulous Friday Find. Yea, I'm a dork. Since I love to go shopping and I like to spread my aesthetic to others, I've decided the blog seems perfect. Hope you enjoy.

I did have one last Irish post in me. At Chocolate Moose in Farragut/Dupont I found this, the Irish accent breath spray, guaranteed to give whomever you love a deep Irish brogue and minty breath. Who doesn't want to listen to the Irish brogue all day long? I just hope there's enough in that small bottle to last the day.

This is such a great way to describe the residents of South Campus Commons:
"I don’t think many would have the patience to deal with the drama of some of the immature, ungrateful, and disrespectful college students. "
Yea, I actually heard someone complain about being "illegally" forced to live in the Commons during a power outage that affected pretty much everyone in the DC metro area. Was the whole metro area forced to be "illegally" live in their residences? Who should we sue? God, Mother Nature for the storm that caused the power outages? Or should the college students, who are supposed to be learning about how it is to live in an apartment with a lease and all that responsibility that comes with that, learn to grow up and handle things in the real world? I'd love to see that girl in a dorm in NYC, all of us who have a bigger view of the world all know what that can be like.

Storey Clayton, who I 'knew' from my days on APDA has done it again with his Book Quiz, which he just added in mid-Feb. While not as great as the Country Quiz, this is still good.

You're The Guns of August!

by Barbara Tuchman

Though you're interested in war, what you really want to know is what
causes war. You're out to expose imperialism, militarism, and nationalism for what they
really are. Nevertheless, you're always living in the past and have a hard time dealing
with what's going on today. You're also far more focused on Europe than anywhere else in
the world. A fitting motto for you might be "Guns do kill, but so can
diplomats."

This one is good because it's a very closed society of people who will get it:

You're A Theory of Justice!

by John Rawls

In the beginning, you lived in a town. The town had many problems!
Rather than moving, you decided to come up with the idea for the best town ever. Going
all the way back to the original position, you created the idea for the best town ever!
Lo and behold, the best town ever looked almost identical to the town you lived in. You
decided to stay in the town. Now you resent people mistaking your refined thought
experiments for "the wall of stupidity" in high school debate
rounds.

Right now I'm really annoyed by: people who won't grow up. We're all guilty of acting the same way around a certain group of people. For example, I hang out with my high school friends, I act like I did in high school. Yes, it's a little different if you've spent time apart, but if you never have......yea, that's what's scary. Growth many times, takes space, and that's true for friends and family. Get some space from what's comfortable, what you know! Yes, there are exceptions to this rule, but they are very few and I've only met two in my life and many many more who fall under this rule.

Catholic

Today of all days is a good time to talk about being Catholic. Today begins the Lenten season a time of remembering our sins, asking for forgiveness and preparing for the renewal of Easter.

There's been a lot of talk lately in the media about Catholicism. Thanks to anti-Catholic things like the Da Vinci Code and pro-orthodox Catholic things like The Passion of Christ. Today the president of Catholic had an online discussion about the Passion of Christ. I think a great question was asked during and really shows how some people out there think they know, read things like the Da Vinci Code, then ask questions like this:
"Alexandria, Va.: If Jesus was born a Jew when did he become Catholic?"
Yea.
That overall is one of the greatest questions ever.

Hopefully all this talk will spark some debate and discussion and people will learn a little about the Church. The Post has an article about The Passion of Christ and another one about the mystic that Gibson based a lot of his 'details' on.

There is also Opus Dei's response to the Da Vinci Code. And The London Times goes after the Da Vinci Code calling it, "without doubt, the silliest, most inaccurate, ill-informed, stereotype-driven, cloth-eared, cardboard-cutout-populated piece of pulp fiction I have read." And finally, the Post-Gazette reports on the accuracy of the Da Vinci Code.

Candidates

I think it's appropriate that I say something about the coming presidential election, depending on who wins, there could be a lot of apartment vacencies come next January. If you can't find a candidate to back, there's a site to help, it's called PresidentMatch.com. All you have to do is respond to their questions in seven different issue areas, then it tells you which candidate most matches your responses. Hmmmm, I'm torn how I feel about this website, it's good that people can actually pick their candidates on the issues and the candidate's platform on the issues important to them. But then again, it's kinda scary that americans need a website that averages the best candidate for them.
